Old K-Mart Location Set To Become Student Housing

WILMINGTON — Big news near the old K-Mart location on South College Road, plans were submitted Wednesday to the City of Wilmington’s Technical Review Committee for a mixed-use student housing development to be located at 815 S. College Road. The K-Mart store that closed permanently in March. 

The developer GHK Cape Fear Development submitted plans for a multi-building student housing development that would consist of two four-story student housing buildings, two parking garages, and a four-story mixed use building. The development’s name as listed on the documents is “The Hamilton”.

The mixed-use building is planned to have three additional floors of student housing, as well as one floor for commercial use. 

According to the documents submitted, the complex would offer 899 beds and provide over 1,000 parking spaces for residents and visitors. 

Initial site plans show amenities such as a pool as well as a courtyard. 

Port City Daily reached out to both GHK Cape Fear Development as well as the engineering firm Paramounte Engineering for a comment but at the time of publication had not responded to phone calls.
